How portable can the computer and internet become?
This wearable and more practical computer/gadget and world wide web was developed and designed by Mr Pranav Mistry a student at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology who is doing his postdoctoral courses. The project is named “Six sense” will reaffirm how portable gadgets revolutionize the internet nowadays ie referring to
mobile phones and smart phones with internet enabled capabilities (Blackberry and iPhones, Palm Pre etc...) as long as it is being arranged by
wireless internet provider.
How the sixth sense works is very logical but technical and interesting. It consists of different parts most linked together in order for it to work properly. There is a battery webcam and a tiny projector and a cell phone which can access the web weather it be (GPRS, EDGE, 3G,).
What it does which is quite impressive is taking the ordinary and making it extra ordinary for example you can with the four parts mentioned above the projector, webcam , cellphone and battery for the powering the gadget wear it which is what it (sixth sense) was meant to walk into a supermarket pick up any item on the shelf it will give up to date information about the item you have on hand which the webcam see this and automatically the information seen by the webcam is passed onto the phone which does an automatic search on the web to check for detailed information about the product (bar code, manufacturer, details of the product like what it is made of) and the list can go on, all these will depend on the internet based database in which are programmed onto sixth sense’s memory for access.
Other interesting which can be done with the sixth sense is say if it is programmed to link with the FBI database and say someone wears it and walks with it downtown with the face recognition capabilities with the webcam it can capture images of people one goes past and instantly give information on past or present criminal records & activities this particular person has encountered.
For now the sixth sense gadget is programmed to access Amazon.com and give reviews on books on a library shelf, also another interesting thing is the smart portable wearable computer can project video clips about current events onto newspapers when reading, imaging this when reading and watching it will totally revolutionize the way people interact with normal day to day activities and items with the internet and gadgets.
See below a video is being automatically projected onto a newspaper while reading,
Another useful thing about this gadget is it can interact with gestures of the wearer, for example if the person wearing sixth sense draws a circle on his/her wrist it automatically tells the computer to project a digital clock with the current time. The camera also can take photos if the wearer frames something with his fingers look at this image where Pranav frames his fingers which will trigger the web camera to take an image.
See a digital watch being projected onto the wrist,
There are heaps of potential useful things which can be achieved by this gadget if integrated, improved or improvised further and these can be liased with
the researcher who currently has a patent for this.
The prototype can be improved further more to make it more efficient and effective example more powerful chipsets for the computing part of it powerful webcam with high resolution and mega pixels for quality images and videos, including projector. The internet aspect can also be improved to take other cell phone types with internet capabilities etc, therefore there are greater areas for improvement but at this time acknowledgement should go towards Pranav and co researchers for the wonderful experience of this gadget, what a sigh !
